Arsenal began life in 1886 as Dial Square, a club founded by workers from a munitions factory in south London – hence their nickname. They moved north to Highbury in 1913, but it was their first great innovator, Herbert Chapman (pictured centre), who turned them into a domestic force after taking the reins in 1925. He introduced the white sleeves to the club’s red shirts while steering Arsenal to their first two league titles in 1931 and 1933 and maiden FA Cup in 1930.
